During Disability Awareness Week, we partner with the Joseph Maley Foundation to give our students the opportunity to learn about and experience what it would be like to be an individual living with a disability. We have great speakers and great activities planned for all of our students.

Disability Awareness is a developmentally-appropriate, standards-based curriculum that aims to build understanding and awareness of people with disabilities. This engaging program fosters respect, empathy, and acceptance of all. Here is a brief overview of the themes featured in each grade level. PreKindergarten: Everybody Plays
Kindergarten: Everybody is Different
First Grade: Everybody Needs Help
Second Grade: Uniquely Me: Blindness and Visual Impairment
Third Grade: Living with a Disability
Fourth Grade: Everybody Learns Differently: Learning Disabilities
Fifth Grade: The Person Behind What You Hear
Sixth Grade: Breaking Down Barriers
Seventh Grade: Invisible Disabilities
Eighth Grade: Understanding Autism
9th/10th Grades: Communicating Differently: Deafness and Hearing Loss
11th/12th Grades: Our Voices, Our Stories

We invite you to talk with your children about what they experience and learn as part of the Disability Awareness program. Ask questions, share your own experiences, and join together to celebrate the differences that make us all unique.
